The "ERP WMS" Trap
Most modern ERP systems (NetSuite, Dynamics, SAP Business One) include a "WMS" module. For many distributors, this is actually just basic inventory control on a scanner. It records transactions; it does not direct labor.
A true WMS uses algorithmic logic to optimize picker routing, interleave tasks (e.g., picking on the way to a putaway), and manage complex wave planning. If your system requires a human to decide what task to do next, you do not have a WMS.
